Question: Am I a Radical[1] Masculinist? YES! Are YOU???
[caption id="attachment_804" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Why men are despairing...[/caption]
If you're one of my readers asking that question because I’ve made the impression that I advocate and fiercely defend male identity, the rights or needs of men and boys; and the adherence to or promotion of attributes (the divinity of the masculine spirit, masculine opinions, values, attitudes, virtues) regarded as physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy and natural in men and boys. Then YES!
If you ask the question because I’ve made the impression that I am adamantly opposed to feminists and the vaginal invasion and hijacking of almost every aspect of life and living. Then YES!
If you ask the question because I’ve made it clear that I am sick and tired of seeing almost exclusively tits and vagina every time I Google a subject. Then YES!
Finally, if you are asking that question because you, as a man, feel like you’ve had to give up your man-parts and your freedom of speech, or if you feel like you’ve been hammered into a corner and bound and gagged. Then YES!
The whole concept upon which I have built Homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touch is to reclaim all that we as men, especially we as men daring to love other men and as men hating the gay stereotypes that taint the very notion of divine masculinity, have lost because of the regressive and cowardly concessions made by pussy-whipped, genderless, puerile, spiritless, bipedal marshmallows calling themselves men.
Women have become ugly thanks to extremist feminism, femifascism.
[caption id="attachment_807" align="aligncenter" width="622"]What goes on in today's female brain.[/caption]
I’m not an egalitarian; I’m a realist.
I’m not a misogynist (well, not as much as most feminists are).
I do not believe that men and women are equal.
I resent being stereotyped as stupid and as a brute.
I refuse to divest myself of my true self.
I demand the opportunity to be a complete person and to express both my innate masculine and feminine principles.
And I’m sick of women thinking they can teach a man how to be a man!
[caption id="attachment_808" align="aligncenter" width="685"]It's time to reclaim masculine touch.[/caption]
[1] Contrary to popular misuse and ignorance of the English language, “radical” does not mean “extremist” in any sense whatsoever. The word radical means “fundamental,” or “relating to or affecting the fundamental nature of something; far-reaching or thorough.” [2] I'm somewhat confused and have contacted the author of the article. You see the name "Vishrut" is a male name but the article appears, if you can get around the grammatical and usage errors, to be a female. Perhaps it's a non-native writing an English article that causes the ambiguity. I've contacted the author for a clarification.
Jason Tantra is Part of the Problem, Not a Remedy.
The Gay and Bisexual Man has to be aware of and beware of the snake-oil salesmen who are selling sex services in the guise of an ancient and complete lifestyle. They are using their own neuroses and selling them as self-help; the only ones they are actually helping — and that’s questionable — are themselves.
The Snake-Oil Couple. Duh!Jonathan a.k.a. Davey Wavey and Jason "Tantra".
It’s not Tantraand it’s definitely not Homoerotic Tantra: Mascul-IN-Touch. Please don’t confuse the snake-oil salesmen like Johnathan X a.k.a. “Davey Wavey” and Jason Y a.k.a. Jason Tantra with the gay and bisexual men on the positive path to awakening and transformation I teach as Homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touch, which is not sex-for-sale, but a turnkey program for awakening the divine masculine spirit and transcendence, a lifestyle transformation.
Maybe Jason Tantra is in for some BLISS of a different kind.
If he does not have a license to practice, he may be breaking the law...
In fact, what Jason Tantra is doing, despite his assertion that "Tantra is an unregulated industry/practice" may be a mistaken assumption. In fact, if we rely on Jason Tantra's own statements, he may be providing psychological counseling/therapy, sex therapy, marriage/relationship therapy, therapeutic bodywork/massage, all activities that require specific training and licensure by either a state department of health or department of education in most states and locales. If Jason Tantra's activities meet any of the definitions of such activities then he must be licensed to practice those activities in a particular state and, if he does not have a license to practice, he may be breaking the law. Even if he is licensed to practice in the UK or anywhere, if he is practicing in NYS he must apply for reciprocity. I wonder if he has even made the necessary inquires to avoid a legal hassle. I've made inquiries with the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Department of Education, the state's licensing authority. I'll keep you posted on their responses.
Jason Tantra's advice may be interpreted to be running counter to public health policy
I've reviewed a number of Jason Tantra's YouTube videos and find that some of the content, that is, Jason Tantra's advice may be interpreted to be running counter to public health policy or may just be plainly bad advice. I mention his diatribe on how porn can be beneficial and also include his statements in his YouTube video "Unashamed Sex," in which he advises viewers to "do anything" and "do everything."
Bad advice for a price.
Will Jason's massaging hands find themselves in cuffs?
Once again I have received a notification that simply makes my skin crawl and my blood boil. Another charlatan posing as a Tantrika, a practitioner of true Tantra, offering the ultimate Tantric experience, that is, a sex program, for gay and bisexual men. Jason “Tantra” offers tantric massage workshops — actually orgies — for a mere “special price” of $295 for a two-day (?!?!) so-called workshop in Manhattan. He also offers a free interview podcast with porn-person Davey Wavey (an aging queen who has foisted himself upon the LGBT YouTube community), an interview which is available on Wavey’s YouTube presence for anyone to have. Go figure.
My first impression was: This is serious slap-stick comedy! I need to see what this character is all about!
So I visited “Jason Tantra’s” Internet site and was even more amused. The guy’s not only a fake he’s illiterate, judging by the poor quality of the writing on the site. Now, Tantra, admittedly is not about how well you write, although some of the ancient and more modern sages have done some pretty awesome writing, it’s obvious that Jason “Tantra” hasn’t absorbed much of the real Tantra.
Jason describes himself as”
“Hello, I’m Jason Tantra and this part of my website is all about my one to one Tantra offerings. I have over 25 years experience of Tantra and together with attending the gym 6 days a week, whichever option you choose with me, you are in for a unforgettable Erotic, Blissful and Ecstatic journey. Let me take you to heaven through your sexual energy." [Grammar or lack thereof is Jason’s]
For starters, this intro is a bit misleading, since in most of his promo he touts himself to be an expert with more than 10 years experience in tantric massage (not tantric” but “sex” massage) – in one of his video promos he can’t make up his mind whether he’s got 10 or 12 years of “experience.” And he 'attends the gym 6 days a week'. Does that mean he's a gym attendant? He's a bit fleshy so it must not mean he works out 6 days a week. and "over 25 years experience of Tantra" (Experience "of" or "in"? Big difference.) Yeah, and pigs have wings! Whatever! Makes no difference because it’s all a load of crapola!
Jason is described in an announcement by Easton Mountain, a gay retreat venue, in the following terms:
"SINGLES WEEKEND PRESENTER - Jason commenced his training as a Tantra Teacher when he was just 18. Besides his extensive training and lifelong vocation in Neo-Tantra, his background includes Psychotherapy, Spiritualism, several modalities of Energy Work, and Eastern forms of Ecstatic Satsang and Darshan. After a very successful corporate career in business, he received his degree in Integrative Counselling from Bristol University (UK), and has worked professionally with male survivors of rape and abuse as well as a Family Therapist. He continues to explore and learn Tantra and other spiritual modalities with several masters around the world."
Truth be told, the Easton Mountain community seems to be legit and a very well-organized credit to the gay community, and I would encourage readers and followers to visit their site. I found it interesting and well organized. They have some good programs and a credible mission. That's why I find it so very bizarre that such an apparently responsible community would open their doors to a snake-oil diploma or certificate scam like Jason Tantra's. My question when I see "diploma" or "certificate" is where's the accreditation coming from? Which national or international oversight agency is ensuring the quality and credibility of the credentials being conferred with the "diploma" or "certificate"? My inquiries have not shown Jason Tantra to have any such credentials or authority to issue a "diploma" or "certificate" of any kind. A further question would be: What do you do with such a certificate and for what does it qualify you? Sounds like a real scam to me.
I visited and searched the University of Bristol undergraduate and graduate course and degree offerings but could find nothing close to "integrative counseling." Something's not right. But if you think that’s a vague description, join the rest of us. Too many contradictions and too few facts. By the way: What’s this guy’s real name? Good luck trying to find out about him. If you google him, you’d better like going around in circles. "A very successful corporate career in business?" Where? Doing what? Why did he leave it? What is his "extensive training?" "Worked professionally?" Does that mean he's a licensed therapist or counselor? "Several masters around the world?" Who, for example?
Another guy doing basically the same thing but from Israel, is Ray Moar. To Moar’s credit, though I must admit, he clearly differentiates between sex tantra and tantra as a way of life. Thank you Ray. Moar has a more intelligent and authentic approach to what he is marketing. Moar goes on to say that “tantric sex is not focusing on the end…it’s focusing on the partner.” I agree with Moar’s presentation of the topic because he’s right up front with the fact that he’s not talking about Tantra as a lifestyle, as we are in homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touch but about solo or partner sex as a quasi-ritual moment. There’s a sort of genuineness in his humility as opposed to the ‘I know all about this and I’m gonna show you how…” Jason’s snake-oil style.
Nevertheless, what these guys are showing is their own neuroses and what they’re selling is a sex product to a vulnerable group in the packaging of so-called Tantra but what is in fact a Western perversion of the ancient and highly developed yogic Tantric tradition called Neotantra or Navatantra. It’s not tantra the spiritual discipline nor tantra the lifestyle as taught by Homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touch. They’re doing to the Tantric tradition what American yoga industry has done to the ancient yogic tradition: commercialized and perverted it.
Both Jonathan "Davey Wavey" (actually his first name is Jonathan and he refuses to give his last name) and Jason “Tantra” actually offer nothing to those seeking Tantric ecstasy. Both Wavey and “Tantra” are porn vendors taking advantage of an ignorant and vulnerable group of misdirected souls. In fact, neither Wavey nor “Tantra” represent anything about Tantra or personal development, both have become their brand and both have failed to develop a true Self. Both are aging stuffed shirts.
Please don’t misunderstand what I mean by “aging.” I would be the last to be charged with agism; I’m consistently promoting younger older, erastes/erosmenos, relationships because I am convinced that both the younger man and the older man benefit from such relationships. I am also not a time-bound being and live in the Eternal Now. What I mean by “aging stuffed shirts,” is that both Jonathan and Jason appear to be fighting against time rather than living comfortably in it. Now I don’t hold that against Jonathan a.k.a. Davey Wavey, since he’s a product of his lost generation (he’s at least 33 years old and from a small town in Rhode Island) but I do hold it against the fake guru, Jason Tantra, who offers nothing but a butt plug and a hand job calling it the path to bliss.
If you don't know what a certificate or diploma is or you don't know the difference, please watch this video:
Jason Tantra has no authority or credentials to issue certificates or diplomas. They're simply rubbish and a way for him to get into your pockets!
We will be inquiring with the New York State Department of Education about Jason Tantra's claims of authority to issue diploma in anything!
Jason’s arrogance and mediocrity have gone so far that he now offers a “certificate in tantra/” Now that’s something you really want to hang on your office wall: "Hey, guys! I just earned a certificate in handjob."
It seems the only "masters around the world" he's trained with are worldwide online masturbators!
True tantra is a triad of interrelated aspects of total being: the physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual. True Tantra is all about liberation, no becoming addicted to sex or physical pleasure. What Jason Tantra is is a carnival act, a snake oil vendor posing as a healer. The fact that he has hijacked Tantra to be his surname is absolutely ludicrous and shameless. In fact, in one of his YouTube videos, he actually dedicates the entire video to comparing porn with tantra!!! He's saying that porn is good. It seems the only "masters around the world" he's trained with are worldwide online masturbators! Porn has no place in healthy sex much less in a spiritual tradition like Tantra!
Jason does note in a personal communication that his single identified teacher is one calling himself "Sat Shree" who operates an organization called New Dharma in Nevada. Sat Shree's qualification is having suffered occupational exhaustion as an architect, he retreated to India for six years, where he found a "teacher." Nice for Mr Sat Shree but... (https://satshree.org) So that's one American entrepreneur who is Jason's teacher. What about the other "masters around the world," Jas'. Who are they?
The fact that he has hijacked Tantra to be his surname is absolutely ludicrous and shameless.
I personally question his alleged “credentials” vague and ambiguous as they are, and his claim to having a degree of any kind from any reputable institution of higher learning simply because his English is so bad. If English is his language of habitual use and he’s such a “teacher” and successful business man and so-called “counselor” why can’t he write a convincing paragraph?
Moreover, in his YouTube interviews and marketing material, he comes across as someone too into his fem side and consequently unbalanced. But then, I never believed for a minute that he has any concept of the interaction and engagement of the masculine and feminine principles in individuation and the awakening of the true Self. Far from it. Both Jonathan and Jason appear to be stagnated in a hermaphroditic limbo, and have created false selfs in order to protect their actual vulnerable selfs rather than progress to awakening and awareness of the true Self. Perhaps that explains why they have become sex-bound, bound to the physical, and have not advanced beyond the senses.
In one of Jonathan’s tasteless stereotypically “queeny” YouTube posts, he’s “interviewing” Jason and there’s one clip that is makes a very serious statement about them both: Jonathan exclaims with waving arms, “I hate myself!” We know, Jonathan, we know. They are acting out the false self in order to defend their inner, secret child, a child that needs to act out an exaggerated in-your-face outrageousness Jonathan’s case and a false-self-affirming pseudo-mentor trying to convince himself as in the case of Jason.
No matter what you call a fraud, it’s still fake; it’s still a fraud. It's still selling sex. If you're selling sex, it doesn't make you a counselor or a guru, it makes you a prostitute.
I make no bones about the fact that I despise the snake-oil vendors posing as healers because I take divine masculinity and yogic Tantra very seriously. I teach a yogic homoerotic Tantra from the physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual approaches, and caution anyone to avoid the one-sided, commercial and fraudulent offerings of sex tantra or as the snake-oil vendors like Jason "Tantra" call it, Neotantra. No matter what you call a fraud, it’s still fake; it’s still a fraud. It's still selling sex.
Here's an interesting article: The Dark Side of the Tantric World You will find many like it by true Tantrikas, who have remained faithful to the ancient tradition.
Another article of interest is Tantra Failed for Two Reasons (Osho), an interesting commentary despite the somewhat misleading title.
Plans are being finalized for offering the Homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touch program in Albany, New York.
The organizers of the HET:MIT program are considering offering the HET:MIT start-up program at gay venues in Albany, New York. Future venues will be in Montréal, Québec, and other locales.
Homoerotic Tantra is a physical, emotional, spiritual practice for gay and bisexual men whose goal is to become aware of and to awaken the divine masculine spirit. Homoerotic Tantra and the Mascul-IN-Touch program is based on the more than four thousand year old traditions of the Sanatana Dharma of India and the practices of yogic Tantra.
Through a process of physical, emotional/mental, and spiritual sadhana (practice) participants will develop skills aimed at awakening self-awareness and self-knowledge, practiced as a lifestyle and positive change in personal, professional and social interactions.
The program can be highly group oriented or deeply individual and personal, but the preparation and waypoints will be the same.
Basically, however, the program will consist of one or more of modules such as:
Attaining an awareness of the Divine Masculine Spirit and defining homophobia in ourselves
Acknowledging and accepting our physical, emotional/mental, and spiritual self and identifying the false self; Recognizing the divine in the other
Basic yogic principles applied in yogic homoerotic Tantra: the yamas and niyamas, basic yogic asana-s, meditation, the homoeroticTantric sadhana exercises
The Eros of HomoeroticTantra: the senses in the attainment of ecstasy and bliss
The masculine and the feminine principles or the divine complementarity: The path to Divine Union, Tantric Maithuna
Solo-cultivation, dual-cultivation and group chakra puja (random cultivation)
Personal and group conversations about your journey (individual and group peer support).
The Homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touchprogram is very different from the commercialized Tantra that has become focused on sexual gratification and the Western commercialized yoga studios. While based on yogic Tantra, HET:MIT teaches and practices yogic ethics and personal discipline, while liberating the gay and bisexual man from the chains of male stereotype and taboos, allowing the masculine and feminine principles, Shiva and Shakti, to complement each other naturally.

Chakras are sites of subtle energy concentration in the body, and they play a vital role in our physical, mental and spiritual health and well-being. A basic understanding of how this body-mind-spirit energy system works is an important step in achieving physical, mental and spiritual health. If you are to understand how yogic homoerotic Tantra and the Mascul-IN-Touch℠ program works, you need to be comfortable with the concept of chakras.
The Sanskrit word “chakra” actually means a wheel or a disk.[1] Knowing this is helpful because in meditation we want to visualize the chakra upon which we are meditating and it would be rather difficult to imagine an energy concentration with nothing more to embrace than that vague terminology. So we do our best by visualizing first the concept of chakra as an energized spinning disk, and then we attribute to it its characteristic color, and finally we chant the bija mantra, a mantra syllable associated with that particular chakra. Using my own dominant chakra, the Svadhisthana chakra (the Sacral Chakra), I would visualize in my mind a form of a spinning disk of energy, however I might think of such a thing, then I color it with the color associated with my chakra, orange, and during my meditation I focus on that vision while chanting the mantric syllable VAM (pronounced V-AA-MG). I visualize that energy and its movement up and down the chakra system, a bright pathway of light along which my energy moves as a golden sphere up and down my spine.
Bija Syllable VAM of Svadhisthana
We thus awaken the shakti (cosmic power, not to be confused with the feminine principle, Shakti) or Kundalini (Sanskrit meaning “coiled”; visualized as a three-coiled serpent asleep at the base of the spine) that lies dormant like a huge cobra, ready to awaken and rise with the powerful energies of a released spring coil. When this happens, the Tantrika will feel the power in body, mind and spirit: the awakening Kundalini.[2]
As we progress on our journey into higher consciousness, you will hear and read the word “awareness” very frequently, and you must understand it in a broader sense than just sensory perception. When I write about “awareness,” I am describing a state that embraces the physical (the body, the world), the mind (sensory experiences and interpretations or associations, emotions, etc.), and the spirit (mind, consciousness, awakenedness). Understanding this broader meaning is important to your understanding of our continuing discussions about chakras and their energies, because most readers will associate “awareness” only with the psychological or the spiritual exclusively; it’s much bigger than that.
An unfortunate consequence of that limited understanding of awareness becomes obvious when we discuss the chakras. When I mention the word “chakra” most people immediately jump to the Third Eye chakra or one or another of the upper three, the Throat, or Crown chakras, the more esoteric, airy realms of the higher or purer consciousness. I have to regularly remind my followers that there are seven chakras, seven energy centers, and they are all interconnected, and each of them produces its own “awareness” or “consciousness.” We will discuss this concept when we discuss the individual chakras.
In other words, I teach that there is a specific awareness for each of the seven chakras that we will cultivate in our homoerotic Tantra work, that is, there are seven chakras and seven types of awareness. Accepting this notion in conjunction with the principles of yogic conduct and ethics will empower you to be humble and not to act as though we are more “aware” than anyone else; that’s pure arrogance and nonsense. We each are “aware” differently but “aware” of the same Reality, of which we are a part, and which is unchangeable, eternal, and One. Just one of the many paradoxes in yogic homoerotic Tantra that you will learn to understand.
The entire article on the Introduction to the Chakras is posted on the Homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touch website. Click the link below.
[1] As with many of the terms we use in the 5000 year-old yoga traditions, chakra has any number of different meanings, depending on the context and the reference source (interpretive texts, scriptures, etc.). Here we are understanding the word to men those subtle energies present in the body; elsewhere, the word may be used differently such as in the case of “pujachakra” (a group worship ritual) which we will use to describe the erotic Tantric rituals of worship of the Divine Lover.
[2] We distinguish between the mere awakening of the kundalini and the actual ascent of the kundalini energies.

I've seen an article on a local blog supporting a new group in the Albany, NY, Capital District Area and I asked for for permission to republish the article (in edited form). Consistent with my interest in social justice and support of the local gay men's community platform, I urge all of my followers to support the group in whatever way they can. It's so unique we think it should get all the support it can get.
Now, seriously, this is no scam. I've done my homework as usual and have gotten the facts and verified them. But, as always, I'll let the group speak for itself and here's what the spokesperson has to say about the group:
"We are a group of gay men who are passionate about the outdoors, hiking, and backpacking. There are many terrific and challenging trails in this part of the country, particularly in New York and Vermont. Our group is mixed, that is, it's made up of experienced trekkers and novices, but all are welcome. We have one thing that sets us apart from all the rest on the trails: we are all Celts either by ancestry or spirit, and we live many of the Celtic traditions and culture, particularly the kilt. We hike the trails in kilts!" [Name withheld by me.]
[caption id="attachment_12845" align="aligncenter" width="240"]Kilted Celts on the Trails. You GO! guys![/caption]
Given the amount of negative material to cover in the Albany, NY, area, this group seems to have a lot going for it. Albany's support of the traditional American Celtic holiday, St Patrick's Day, was disappointing at best. There were few musical or cultural events to commemorate the holiday or the Celtic traditions. As usual, all you could find were drunks, fights, police patrols, and the usual Albany attractions.
I applaud innovation and courage and these guys seem to have a good dose of each. Bravo for them! I'd like to see more like them out there appreciating the beauty of the area, taking care of nature and just being a part of the world. The Gay Kiltics (that's not a misspelling, it's what they're called) could be a lesson for all of Albany and elsewhere, whose mission in life it seems is to kill, destroy, litter, pollute, and just generally be ugly!
The Homoerotic Tantra blog supports the Gay Kiltics Hiking and Backpacking group as a community organization but is not the contact for information about or for the group. Please direct all of your inquiries to the group at Gay Kiltics Hiking and Backpacking.

During my studies in seminary, one of my professors in pastoral counseling introduced a new trend: we each had to choose a fiction book or novel and report on the characters’ psychology and make our recommendations for diagnosis and for treatment. At the time I was not practicing homoerotic Tantra, of course, so I chose a wonderful book, “Birds without Wings,” by Louis De Bernières.
Briefly, the book is the story of a small coastal town in South West Anatolia in the dying days of the Ottoman Empire told in the richly varied voices of the people - Christians and Muslims of Turkish and Greek and Armenian descent - whose lives are rooted there, intertwined for untold years. There is Iskander, the potter and local font of proverbial wisdom; Karatavuk - Iskander's son - and Mehmetcik, childhood friends whose playground stretches across the hills above the town, where Mehmetcik teaches the illiterate Karatavuk to write Turkish in Greek letters. There are Father Kristoforos and Abdulhamid Hodja, holy men of different faiths who greet each other as "Infidel Efendi"; Rustem Bey, the landlord and protector of the town, whose wife is stoned for the sin of adultery. There is a man known as "the Dog" because of his hideous aspect, who lives among the Lycian tombs; and another known as "the Blasphemer," who wanders the town cursing God and all of his representatives of all faiths. It is a moving book for a number of reasons and was very appropriate to my interests and the context of the studies. I do highly recommend the book for its complex historical context and the human studies. Masterfully written.
So, I got hooked on recommending to colleagues and to clients alike the value of good fiction to better understand human nature and the human situation in the world.
Having started the homoerotic Tantra movement as a specialized program for gay and bisexual men for awakening the depressed and repressed divine masculine spirit through physical, emotional, and spiritual awareness, practices, and rituals, I again discovered a unique fiction novel that seemed to embrace much of what I am teaching in homoerotic Tantra.
There have been volumes written about legendary and mythical homoerotic love between men.
Homoeroticism is defined as eroticism centered on or aroused by persons of one’s own gender. While erotic power of physical and psychological attraction may differ and, depending on the culture, may not even involve overt sexual activity — although if you read between the lines, it is strongly suggested —, the G-rated versions of the stories may referred to as what we would today call a “bromance”. For example, in The Epic of Gilgamesh, a perfect being was created by several deities but he was too wild in all his ways. So a partner is created for him, to attract and sublimate him so the city could relax. Their relationship is the most important and nuanced in the story. This may have been the first written evidence of “twin flames.”
Throughout the epic, Gilgamesh’s and Enkidu’s affection for each other is obvious, conspicuous, some of the situations are difficult to interpret as just platonic. We are told, for example, that Gilgamesh loves Enkidu “like a bride”, which would mean a romantic love relationship even if we’re to believe that the translation isn’t merely a convention of the particular time and culture.
Enkidu, in fact, is described as having several feminine qualities such as “lush head hair like a woman” and is given a special relationship closeness with Nature, a relationship that is generally associated with the feminine principle. Enkidu’s gentle presence calms Gilgamesh (taming a wild warrior is usually the clichéed role of the feminine love interest, what I call in homoerotic Tantra, the Shakti or “Receiver” lover). When Gilgamesh first dreams of Enkidu’s creation he describes him as a great weight that he could not move or lift forcefully, no matter his great strength. When he has a closer look however, he “fell in love with it”, and caressed it gently. Suddenly, after admitting this to himself and acting upon it, he can lift the great weight (Enkidu) and present it to his mother. There are many more instances of this behavior, and it is indicative of Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s soul-deep bond. Gilgamesh and Enkidu are, in fact, Tantric Lovers; they are united physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Volumes have been written about the Greek tradition(s) of pederasty or man-boy love. Most of it is based on misconceptions, a Puritan attitude of condemnation, and poor scholarship. We had to wait until the mid 20th century for anything honest to be written about several centuries of man-boy love in a number of different forms in ancient and Classical Greece. One such scholarly and honest book is William Percey’s work on pederasty and pedagogy in ancient Greece, a must read if one is interested in understanding the cultural, historical, and even economic bases for the love between the erastes (the older man) and the eromenos (the younger man, the boy) which was tolerated, accepted, and in some instances even mandated! [1]
The G-rated, “cleaned up” legends of such figures as Alexander the Great and Hephaestion was one of the more visible examples but until recently was “just” good friends, that is, until Oliver Stone’s film based on the homoerotic love relationship between the Macedonian General and his lover Hephaestion (Alexander played by Colin Farrell and Hephaestion by Jared Leto).
The Christian tradition also has its share of homoerotic saints. Saints Sergius and Bacchus were third-century Roman soldiers, Christian martyrs and men who loved each other. Their story is told here in words and images for their feast day on Oct. 7.
The close bond between Sergius and Bacchus has been emphasized since the earliest accounts, and recent scholarship has revealed their homosexuality. The oldest record of their martyrdom describes them as erastai (Greek for “lovers”). Scholars believe that they may have been united in the rite of adelphopoiesis (brother-making), a kind of early Christian same-sex marriage. What Christianity couldn’t cover up they managed to whitewash. Sergius and Bacchus were lovers.
Back to Philateos, Beloved
The book, “Song of Achilles,” is written by a woman, Margaret Miller, and briefly, the book is about Greece in the age of Heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia. Here he is nobody, just another unwanted boy living in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles.
Achilles, “best of all the Greeks,” is everything the young prince Patroclus aspires to be—strong, masculinely beautiful, the son of a goddess—and their paths may never have crossed. Yet one day, Achilles takes the awkward prince under his wing and soon their tentative connection gives way to a strong masculine erotic bond. As they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and healing, their bond blossoms into something far deeper—despite the displeasure of Achilles’ mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.
Fate is never far from the heels of Achilles. When Helen of Sparta is kidnapped by the prince, Paris of Troy, the men of Greece are called upon to lay siege to Troy to avenge the crime. Seduced the opportunity to attain glory, his destiny or curse, depending on how you read it, Achilles heads for Troy. Torn between love for Achilles and fear of the outcomes, Patroclus follows his lover Achilles into war, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they have learned, everything they hold dear. And that, before he is ready, he will be forced to surrender his friend to the hands of Fate.
“Song of Achilles,” is a book with a homoerotic theme, love between a younger man, a prince, and an older man, a warrior hero. It is a book written by a woman about two men in love. I have no problem dealing with the first statement but I generally balk at anything written by a woman describing anything in a man, especially what goes on in two men in a homoerotic love relationship. That’s one of the reasons why I started Homoerotic Tantra:Mascul-IN-Touch℠, too many women writing about how a man should enjoy his erotic and sexual experiences. Can you imagine a guy writing about how a woman feels when stimulated by a man? Don’t be surprised if I tell you that sort of bullshit is out there. Worse still, they try to mix Tantra into their perverse little pornographic paper scrap.
So I approached “Song of Achilles” not just a little biased. I have to admit that “Song” did not confirm my suspicions. It’s remarkably well written and could be a textbook on homoerotic love. I even started annotating my copy with notes on yogic and Tantric principles that abound in the book.
Margaret Miller has not produced a soppy unbelievable piece of disposable fiction; she has actually portrayed and depicted remarkably well the masculine and feminine principles at work in these two heroic and epic characters, to whom she has raised from the stacks of Classical Homeric literature and has breathed fresh life into them. Miller has taken two legendary figures who up to now have been cautiously described as “friends,” and has revealed them to be incredibly hot lovers, two men deeply in love. Two men Tantrically in love.
Here are a couple of remarkably beautiful quotes:
“We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”
Or
“Achilles was looking at me. “Your hair never quite lies flat, here.” He touched my head, just behind my ear. “I don’t think I’ve ever told you how I like it.”
My scalp prickled where his fingers had been. “You haven’t,” I said.
“I should have.” His hand drifted down to the vee at the base of my throat, drew softly across the pulse. “What about this? Have I told you what I think of this, just here?”
“No,” I said.
“This surely then.” His hand moved across the muscles of my chest; my skin warmed beneath it. “Have I told you of this?”
“That you have told me.” My breath caught a little as I spoke.
“And what of this?” His hand lingered over my hips, drew down the line of my thigh. “Have I spoken of it?”
“You have.”
“And this? Surely I would not have forgotten this.” His cat’s smile. “Tell me I did not.”
“You did not.”
“There is this too.” His hand was ceaseless now. “I know I have told you of this.”
I closed my eyes. “Tell me again,” I said.”
Or
“I will go,” he said. “I will go to Troy.”
The rosy gleam of his lip, the fevered green of his eyes. There was not a line anywhere on his face, nothing creased or graying; all crisp. He was spring, golden and bright. Envious death would drink his blood, and grow young again.
He was watching me, his eyes as deep as earth.
“Will you come with me?” he asked.
The never-ending ache of love and sorrow. Perhaps in some other life I could have refused, could have torn my hair and screamed, and made him face his choice alone. But not in this one. He would sail to Troy and I would follow, even into death. “Yes,” I whispered. “Yes.”
Relief broke in his face, and he reached for me. I let him hold me, let him press us length to length so close that nothing might fit between us. Tears came, and fell. Above us, the constellations spun and the moon paced her weary course. We lay stricken and sleepless as the hours passed.”
Or, probably the best known and most frequently repeated:
“I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”
There’s an incredible beauty in the homoerotic relationship between men, a beauty that is impossible between a man and a woman. Men’s bodies are simply beautiful (and they taste good, too)! We cheat ourselves when we fall victim to the cheap, bestial hardcore role-playing, the quick cum, the hard fuck, everything that deprives the male of his divine masculinity and sharing with his divine lover. Homoerotic Tantra offers men the opportunity to rediscover male beauty and to awaken the divine in masculine physical, emotional, and spiritual awareness.
Yes, in case you might have missed it, I do like the book and I do recommend it as thematic reading to all disciples of Homoerotic Tantra. It has a lot to offer men in the West, especially in the United States, because it validates and legitimizes the sacredness of pure love between two men.

[1] The Meaning of Namaste/Namaskar: If you are doing your sadhana (spirituality), every time you bring your palms together, there is a crackle of energy – a boom is happening. On the level of your life energy, there is a giving, or you are making yourself into an offering to the other person. In that giving, you will make the other being into a life that will cooperate with you. Only if you are in a state of giving, things around will work out for you. This is so for every life. Only if it gets the cooperation of all life around itself, it manages to prosper. — Sadhguru
